Convert Base64

How to use

  1. Type or paste text in the first box and press Encode, or paste Base64 in the second box and press Decode.
  2. Turn on URL-safe output if the result will go into a web address.
  3. Press Copy Base64 to copy the result, or Clear to start again.

How do I encode text to Base64?

Type or paste plain text into the first box and press Encode. The tool converts it to Base64, including letters with accents and other Unicode characters, and shows the result in the second box ready to copy for use in code or messages.

How do I decode Base64 back to text?

Paste the Base64 string into the second box and press Decode to restore the original text. If the input is incomplete or contains invalid characters, the tool shows an error instead of producing garbled output, so you can correct it and try again.

What is URL-safe Base64?

URL-safe Base64 replaces plus and slash characters with hyphen and underscore, and may drop padding, so the result can be used safely inside web addresses. Turn on the toggle when you need an encoded value for a link or query string.

Why does Base64 look longer than the original?

Base64 uses only letters, digits and a few symbols to represent binary data, so it needs about four characters for every three bytes of input. The output is therefore roughly one third longer, which is normal and expected for this encoding.
